Grocery Assistant Manager

The Grocery Team seeks an individual with prior retail grocery experience. Knowledge about the natural foods industry is a big plus. Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills are required for this position. The top candidate will also have a positive attitude and strong team building/leadership skills.

The Grocery Assistant Manager is responsible for coordinating the regular functions of the Grocery department for the assigned store location. This includes ordering product, invoicing, managing inventory and margins, as well as scheduling, supervising and evaluating assigned department staff.

The Grocery Assistant Manager works closely with the Grocery Manager to ensure the success of the Grocery department.

This is a 40 hours/week salaried, full-time position. Compensation starts at $2,224/month (equivalent to $13.90/hour) DOE.

Cleaning Team Paid Substitute

We are looking for a reliable and detail oriented Paid Substitute to join our Custodial Team. The successful candidate will have excellent availability and a high-quality work ethic. The abilities to deliver excellent customer service and pay attention to detail are required.

This position is responsible for helping keep First Alternative sparkling, maintaining the Co-op recycling area and working on special projects, as assigned.

Paid Substitutes assist with general tasks of a particular department by filling in for regular staff to cover vacations, illness and temporarily open shifts. There are no regularly scheduled hours for Paid Subs as shifts are open on an as-needed basis.

Pay begins at $9.25 per hour. Shifts vary in length depending on the type of coverage that is needed. Must be able to work some early mornings, some evenings and some weekend hours. Open availability and a flexible schedule are vital qualities for working at First Alternative Co-op. This position will include shifts at both our North and South locations.

Kitchen/Bakery Paid Substitutes

The Co-op Kitchen at First Alternative seeks two reliable Kitchen/Bakery Paid Subs to join our team. Excellent availability and the ability to be highly productive as teammates in our fast-paced commercial kitchen are musts. The preferred candidates will also have previous production kitchen cooking experience, are comfortable with a variety of tasks, and possess positive attitudes. Baking experience is preferred, but not required. We also want candidates who are motivated to get hours.

Kitchen/Bakery Production Worker Paid Subs cook, bake, prep food for the cold case and hot bar, wash dishes, and help with general tasks relating to kitchen production. This is an essential support position in a department with intensive need for quality control and precision. They must be able to follow instruction, be clean and organized, and work well as team players. Ability to adapt in dynamic environments is also desired. Possession of current food handler’s cards is required for these positions.

Paid Subs are individuals who have flexible schedules that would allow for last-minute calls for filling shifts. Paid Subs do not have regular scheduled hours, but fill in for regular staff during vacations, illness and temporarily open shifts.
