Some folks may think that eating local is an activity for the summer, that it’s just too hard to find local food to eat in the winter. First Alternative Co-op has teamed up with Willamette Valley farmers, growers, and community members to share a love for local flavor that spans every season.
The second annual Locavore’s Winter Table will give participants the information they need to be a Locavore 365 days a year. Workshops including local Thanksgiving menu planning, cold frame construction and quick local meals. The local tasting session will feature examples of local food you can sink your teeth into, and a free community cookbook will put the recipes in your hands.
“This event was designed to help educate the Corvallis community about eating locally year ’round and to give them ideas of how to accomplish that in the wintertime when local vegetables are not as readily available. It feeds directly into the Sustainability Coalition’s local food goals,” said Donna Tarasawa, Marketing Manager at the Co-op.
The free event is sponsored by First Alternative Co-op and will be held on October 27th, 2012, from 11am-4pm, at the First Congregational Church, 4515 SW West Hills Rd. Register by calling 541-753-3115.
