First Alternative Co-op Community Donations

One of the Co-op’s guiding principles is the sustainable development of our community. An important way the Co-op does this is through community donations. The Co-op makes a great many donations to local organizations throughout the year and in a variety of ways, including our popular Beans for Bags program.

Beans for Bags Donations

First Alternative’s Beans for Bags program supports sixteen different community organizations with monetary donations of approximately $4,000 each year. Click here to learn about the 2023 Beans For Bags donation recipients and the great work they are doing in our community.

School Donations

First Alternative donates money to local schools every year. Co-op owners may tie their owner number to a particular local school so their purchases are registered in support of that school. The greater the amount tallied for each school, the more donation funds it receives.

Other Giving & Fundraising

At the Co-op, we’re always looking to give, and hoping to help others do the same. We regularly offer shoppers the chance to give to important causes at the registers. Wildfire relief, matching donations to a local NAACP chapter, and donations to local food pantries are just a few of the charities our shoppers have helped with recently. Outside the store, we lend support—food, money, and more—to local charitable organizations who share our sustainable and equitable values.
