Bavarian Apple Tart

A sweet and creamy dessert based on the traditional Bavarian treat, featuring cream cheese, sweet apple slices, and sliced almonds. Or try it for breakfast or brunch!

  • For the crust:

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1/3 cup maple sugar

  • ½ cup butter, softened

  • ½ cup dates

  • ¼ tsp vanilla

  • For the filling:

  • ¼ cup maple syrup

  • 16 oz cream cheese

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • For the topping:

  • 4 cups (4 medium) peeled and sliced tart cooking apples

  • 3 Tbsp maple syrup

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp nutmeg

  • Dash of cardamom

  • ¼ cup sliced almonds


Heat oven to 375°F. Combine all crust ingredients in a food processor. Process until combined. Press into bottom of a glass baking dish. Bake 10-15 minutes or until light brown. Let cool. In a mixer bowl combine all filling ingredients. Beat at medium speed until smooth. Spread over cooled crust. In large bowl toss together apples, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom. Arrange apples over filling. Bake 35-45 minutes or until apples are fork tender. Sprinkle with almonds and bake 5-10 minutes longer. Cool completely. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
