UPDATE: The North Store is open and providing full services to all our customers, thanks to the exceptional teamwork and quick actions of everyone involved in responding to this accident. Looking forward, we are beginning to work on the necessary fixes for the damage that was done to the front of our building, a register lane, and a section of our freezers. This work will happen over the course of the next few months given the complex nature of working with our insurance company to contract for the necessary repairs and equipment to restore full operations.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding for any changes that are in place meanwhile. For the next several months, the North Store will have a more limited frozen food offering during this time; if there is a specific item you are looking for, you can place a special order or, for a faster option, we encourage you to visit the South Store for a full selection. We will post any further updates here if or when there is more information to share. We appreciate the outpouring of care and support we received from the community!

ORIGINAL POST: On the morning of Wednesday, May 15, a car crashed into the storefront of the North Store location, causing damage to the front of the building, two register areas, merchandising displays, and a portion of our freezers. All staff and customers were unharmed and we are extremely grateful that everyone is okay.

We are very appreciative of the quick response from the Corvallis Fire Department, Corvallis Police Department, City of Corvallis building inspector, and our electrician and refrigeration contractor teams for their quick response to help us assess the damage to determine next steps. The building received safety clearance a few hours after the crash occurred on Wednesday, which will allow the store to reopen and resume regular hours the following day, Thursday, May 16, with a few adjustments:

  • The Grant Ave. entrance will be closed to allow contractors to work on fixing the areas that were impacted by the crash.
  • We will be down two registers, so we appreciate your patience and understanding if checking out takes a bit longer than normal.
  • A portion of our freezer section was impacted, so we will have a few less frozen items than normal.
We will post any additional updates to hours or operations on this blog post, on our website homepage, and on our Facebook and Instagram pages (@firstaltcoop).

We are truly grateful for the kind and supportive messages we have received from our Co-op Owners, shoppers, and the community as a whole. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work with our teams to get the store up and running at full capacity again!
