Donations Budget Policy and Principles
As a part of our community-driven mission, First Alternative Co-op provides donations monetary donations, in-kind donations, and sponsorships to support local non-profits and organizations that are working to improve our community.
The donations budget is administered by the Marketing & Outreach team and is renewed annually at the beginning of each year. We have a designated amount of funds available each month to ensure we are able to support the community throughout the entire calendar year.
Priority
Priority is given to the following groups: 501(c) 3 charitable organizations, 170(c)(1) government entities (such as public schools), and cooperative businesses, but others will also be considered.
Donations are generally considered on a first come, first served basis. When multiple groups request contributions during the same period, priority is given to those who demonstrate a greater need.
Groups involved with multiple events and projects are strongly encouraged to request a lump-sum for all of the events and projects to occur from Jan-Dec. Groups & organizations may only receive a donation or sponsorship once within any given fiscal year, which helps ensure we can spread donations equitably throughout the community.
The Co-op supports fundraising, development, and educational projects or events that are consistent with the Co-op’s bylaws, ends policies, and goals. Priority is given to projects and events that benefit the public, though private events that also benefit the community may also be supported.
Process
Requests must be made at least two weeks prior to funding.
Requests can be submitted via the Co-op’s online donation form or via a paper form in store by visiting the Customer Service desk.
