Question:

In the deli, I’ve noticed you have items labeled with “V” for vegan. I am not vegan, but would like to know when something is animal death free. Do you have a label for that?

Response:

Jeremy Northway, South Store Deli Manager

Thanks for taking the time to give us your thoughts!

For all of our deli prepared foods, we take great effort to provide accurate signage and labeling of ingredients, allergens, and product attributes. We update ingredients in our products immediately and only make substitutions when absolutely necessary. To this end, you can be assured that the listed ingredients really are what is in our products.

To speak specifically to your concern of “animal death free” product, any product with a “V” or “vegan” attribute contains absolutely zero animal bi-products. We also have many product that are vegetarian and contain no meat, but may contain animal products (dairy, honey, etc.). If you are ever interested about the specific ingredients in a product that we make, please feel free to ask a staff member.

We have made the choice in the past to use the “V” designation to refer to vegan rather than vegetarian products to allay confusion about the distinction between the two diets.
