Buying Local at First Alternative

Buying local builds community and develops the local economy, while at the same time, it reduces environmental impact by reducing the carbon emissions and other energy usage inherent in transporting goods over long distances.

When you shop in the store, you will find our Local Designation tags placed next to any products that are made locally. We’ve created distinct categories to help you understand the specific level of local each product is.

Each step towards sustainability should be celebrated. These designations do just that. By labeling groceries that meet the below standards we can encourage & educate people on where their food comes from.

First Alternative has three categories of local designations:

Local Direct

Designates groceries that are grown, made, or processed by an Oregon business and shipped directly to us, rather than through a distributor.

Local 6 Counties

Designates groceries that are grown, made, or processed by a business owned and operated in Benton, Linn, Lane, Lincoln, Polk, or Marion County.

Local Oregon

Designates groceries that are grown, made, or processed by a business owned and operated in the state of Oregon.
