Overnight Oats

What’s more classic than oats? The humble oat–so healthy, so satisfying, yet so frequently underappreciated. Sometimes we need a little inspiration to make our morning oats a little more exciting, and sometimes the best time for getting creative is not early in the morning before you’ve had your coffee. Why not try overnight oats? Mix together your own unique combination of oats, milks, butters, seeds, nuts, and fruit and tuck it in for the night cozy and cool in the fridge. A creamy, healthy breakfast chock-full of protein, vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber will greet you in the morning when you rise.

The Base Ingredients:

1/3 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup milk of choice

Some Topping Variations:

1 Tbsp peanut butter
1/2 banana, sliced
2 large strawberries, sliced
1 tsp honey

or

1/8 cup maple toasted coconut
1 Tbsp chia seeds
1/4 cup mango, diced
1/4 cup peaches, diced
2 tsp maple syrup

or

1/4 cup applesauce
1/8 cup walnuts, crumbled
1/8 cup raisins
1/4 tsp cinnamon
A few fresh apple slices

Instructions:

Place oats in a pint mason jar. Pour in milk of choice. Add toppings (you may choose to wait until the morning to add fresh fruit if you prefer.) Give it all a good stir and cover with lid. Place in refrigerator overnight. In the morning, decant into a bowl and garnish with additional fruit, if desired. Or, you can enjoy eating it right out of the mason jar!
