Question:

Why do I see some variation in the quality of produce throughout the year, particularly avocados and mangoes?

That is a great question! The main reason is that all produce has a season. We do our best to source staple items like avocados from other regions when it is out of season in its primary growing region, but there can still be some variation in quality when it is not its main growing season. Growers are also contending with weather conditions and other challenges during certain times of the year, which can have an affect as well. Our best suggestion would be to shop what is seasonal! This will give you the best chance of having produce that is at it’s peak quality, and it’s a great way to try some new items. Using a seasonal produce guide is a great way to know what items are in season throughout the year.
